The Pesticides Act, No. 41 of 1971 was enacted by the Parliament of Fiji and published in the gazette on 12th of August 1971.

The Act consists of 12 sections and provides for the registration and sale of pesticides.

The Act is supplemented by the Pesticides Regulations, also issued in 1971, which establish specific requirements for registration and particulars that should be reflected on the labels.

It is now nearly 50 years since the last amendment and significant steps has to be undertaken to review the Pesticides Act.

Since then, clearer guidance and standards on the pesticide management framework has emerged that should be addressed to meet the international code of conduct on Pesticide Management.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways through the Cabinet approval is therefore undertaking public consultations to seek your views for the review of the current Act.
