As discussed in the post about Varroa Mites, here is a cheap and easy way to make your own sticky boards.

Poster cardboard smeared with automotive grease makes a good sticky board for measuring dead varroa mite drops in a hive.

I experimented using grease, cooking oil, and petroleum jelly, putting each on 4 sticky boards.

Grease worked best, followed by petroleum jelly. Cooking oil allowed too many mites to fall of when lifting out of the hive.
